How to Make Money Online

On average, globally, each month 110,000 people type the keyword ‘How to make money online’ in to the Google search engine.

In today’s economic climate, more and more people are looking for alternative ways to make money, whether that is to supplement an existing income or to free themselves from the daily grind of a 9 to 5 job.

The key to making money online is to provide people with the information they are looking for, providing solutions which are valuable to your customer.

97% of people who decide to start a business online fail! That’s a cold hard fact! Why do so many fail? The answer is simple, if you are looking to make money fast without having to invest any time or effort, you’ll soon get lost along the way. You’ll probably find you spend a lot of money on products promising you fantastic results and either have no idea how to use them or just become disillusioned when you realise there is no such thing as easy money!!!

Having the correct mindset is crucial to success in Internet Marketing.

Once you understand that you will have to learn new skills, and that you will need to invest some time and effort before you start to make money online you will be on the right road. After all, this is a business just like any other and will require the same dedication on your part. If you put nothing in, you’ll get nothing out!

Choosing a Niche!

In order to make money online you need to find yourself a profitable niche and build a website around it.

What exactly is a ‘niche’? – A niche is a term used by Internet Marketers and basically means a specific segment of a particular market, it’s what your site will be all about!!!

Here’s the point where lots of people go wrong! Don’t spend lots of your precious time looking for new and untapped niches. Certainly not when you are just starting out. Start with the tried and tested, look for what’s already working well. When you have established yourself and have started to actually make some money online then you can start looking for some more diverse niches, but to get started stick with the main 3 market areas.

These areas are universally popular and have high numbers of searches relating to them which means plenty of potential customers who are prepared to buy information.

Those areas are:

Wealth, Health & Lifestyle.

Here are some examples of niche markets within each of those areas:

Wealth

  • Working From Home
  • Starting your own business
  • Internet Marketing
  • Credit Cards
  • Mortgages
  • Business Opportunities
  • Debt relief

Health

  • Medical Procedures
  • Headache relief
  • Gaining or losing weight
  • Supplements
  • Healthy eating
  • Quitting Smoking
  • Skin care

Lifestyle

  • Mind Body & spirit
  • Dating
  • Personal Development
  • DIY
  • Motivational
  • Pets
  • How to sell your house
  • Spirituality
  • Stress Management
  • Self improvement
  • Divorce
  • Relationship advice
  • Alternative energy
  • The web

As you can see, there is a huge range of subject matter within those main 3 market areas. The best advice is to look at something which you have a passion for, something which you already know something about for example. Maybe a hobby or just an area which really interests you.

What you will be aiming to do is create a website around your chosen subject and fill it with interesting and valuable information for your potential customers. It will be so much easier for you to create unique quality content if you have enthusiasm for that subject!

Don’t be afraid to pick a niche market which you think may be very competitive. The more competitive it is, the more traffic there is likely to be and there is plenty of room on the web for all of us. No two people are the same and while there may be other websites in the same niche as you, you are your own individual and will be able to put your unique stamp on things.

Have a look at the Google keyword search tool . Here you will be able to enter keywords and phrases related to the niche market which interests you to give you an idea of how many searches there are on a monthly basis.

It’s simple to use, if you are looking at the pet niche for example, type into the box which says ’enter word or phrase’, something like ‘dog training tips’ and it will tell you how many people search for that keyword in any one month.

Once you feel you have chosen a niche that’s right for you, you can then start looking for products which relate to this area which you will eventually be able to promote to your list of customers. This is how you will actually monetize your website and start to make money online, by becoming an affiliate of certain products and earning commission from sales which you then make to your customers.

One of the most popular places to go to find products which you can promote is Clickbank. It is free to register for an account with them. Once you have registered for an account go to the marketplace and have a look through the categories for anything related to your niche market.

The results in each category will show you the products which are currently available for you to promote, the average amount which you would expect to get paid for each sale you make of that product and it will show you whether you will earn a one off commission or if it’s a recurring monthly commission which would be for something like a membership site.

If you click on the link for each product it will take you to the sales page. I would always recommend that you have a good look at any products you are thinking of promoting, even so far as to say purchase them yourself. You will have spent a lot of time and effort building a list of customers. The strength of your business will depend on you providing your list with quality information and gaining their trust. You won’t retain interest if you simply relentlessly push useless products which you know nothing about.

Do your background and choose your products wisely. Your list will then come to rely on the fact that the products you promote will help them find the solutions they seek. That when you suggest they purchase something through you, they will actually be buying something of value to them.

Here is where many marketers fail. They relentlessly push products hoping for high commission one off sales and don’t pay attention to the quality of the products. They are focused on the money and not on the customer.

To make money online you need to be one of the 3% of marketers who do things differently. You need to look at what the other 97% are doing, and then do the opposite!

Be a smart marketer of quality, valuable information and you will be on the road to success!
